| They may have set the cruise control a little too early though.... The Force are heading to their 4th playoff appearance in 4 years of play, but they sure are making it look more difficult this season then they have in the past. After jumping out to a 20-0 lead early in the game, the Force appeared to mentally check out of this one as the game went on. The Force held a 27-7 lead deep into the 4th quarter, but the Storm were able to find some gaps in the Force defense when they shifted from their passing attack to a more ground based game. The Storm scored 15 unanswered points in the 4th, bringing the score to 27-22 and making the contest appear more closely matched than it had actually been for most of the game. RB Tyler Mickelson enjoyed a breakout day, rushing for 118 yards on just 11 attempts, including two trips into the endzone. QB TJ Arndt looked about the best that he has all season, as he spread the ball around hitting 6 different receivers and managed the game well. Arndt would finish 16 of 27, for 231 yards and a TD. All combined, the Force got 421 yards of production out of their offense, which could be an indication that the unit has finally turned the corner and is back to the form they had displayed in the past, when they were at or very near the top of the WSFL in scoring. DB Mike Mau must have been wearing a yellow jersey for this game, as he seemed to be the favorite target for Storm QB Sean Golden. Mau finished the game with 4 interceptions, boosting the team total for the game to 7. The Force have locked up the #2 seed in the Eastern Conference, and need a little help from the Chippewa Valley Predators (6-0) this weekend when they take on the Central Wisconsin Spartans. The Spartans currently hold the #1 spot in the Eastern Conference, with a 5-1 record. The Force at 5-2 are a game back, but hold the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Spartans should both teams finish with identical records. The Force are hoping for a Spartans loss this weekend along with a victory in their final game against the UP Arctic Blast on July 11 up in Norway, MI. If the Force (5-2) do get some help from the Predators and bring home the victory over the Blast (1-6), they will then host the Conference Championship game on July 25. Should the Spartans win out for their final two games or the Force slip in Michigan, then the Force will host the 1st round of the playoffs on July 18. The Banta Bowl at Lawrence University is being considered as the venue for either date. Please check back after 4th of July weekend for any updates. |
